About

Hi! I'm Mariia Smyk, a mechanical engineer from MIT.
I enjoy analyzing complex systems, from manufacturing lines to human movement, and making them more intuitive. I like building and tinkering, for science and for fun, and I try to use up as much scrap material as I can. I make stained glass and teach students stained glass and machine shop skills at MIT makerspaces.
Outside the lab I'm usually outdoors: climbing, running, cycling and canoeing. I also enjoy seeing trains and dams on my adventures.
This site is about my past and ongoing projects, including the ones not directly related to my research, plus longer write-ups about climbing and other adventures.
