Education

Massachusetts Institute of Technology · S.M./PhD Candidate in Mechanical Engineering · June 2025 – Present Precision Engineering Research Group (PERG), Prof. Alex Slocum

Massachusetts Institute of Technology · B.S. in Mechanical Engineering · June 2023

Experience

Mechanical Engineering Intern, Hair Care R&D · SharkNinja, Needham, MA · May – Aug 2026

  • Developed new testing methods to understand the science of hair curling and inform new product design
  • Supported new product development by testing new coatings, geometries and users, to find roadblocks and unlocks for products on the 2027 roadmap

Research Assistant · MIT Precision Engineering Research Group · June 2025 – Present

  • Machined and tested elastic averaging contacts and demonstrated sub 20 μm contact repeatability (measured on a CMM), validating that repeatability improves with the square root of the number of elastic elements. Poster at ASPE, November 2025 (San Diego, CA)
  • Tested planar electrical contacts for 100,000 mating cycles, tracking contact resistance and post-test surface roughness (Keyence profilometer); developing a new design more tolerant of angular misalignment
  • Weatherproofed and deployed an electric utility vehicle (GEM) with integrated data collection for outdoor contact testing, now used by MIT Facilities; leading modification of a JLG scissor lift for in-vehicle testing

Manufacturing Operations Consultant · Chartwell Consulting, Boston, MA · June 2023 – May 2025

  • Increased chemical plant capacity by over 40% in 3 months through bottleneck management, speed trials and lean principles, with a sustained 90% reduction in bottleneck idle time
  • Increased production rate of a continuous cGMP pharmaceutical plant by 80% and cut product changeover by 65%, including finding a misconfigured valve control loop that throttled production. The improvements supplied medicine for over 40,000 additional patients

Biomechanics Research Student · Immersion Lab, MIT.nano · Feb 2021 – Sep 2022

  • Edited successful $1M+ grant applications; authored the human research (COUHES) proposal and ran subject recruitment and data collection
  • Assembled and calibrated a 1 ms precision DAQ clock system for real-time multimodal muscle observation (EMG, acceleration, gyro, motion capture)
  • Wrote Python scripts to process physiological data for 80+ subjects

Projects

  • Vinyl Record Cutting Machine · ASPE Student Challenge · Fall 2025: led a team of 5 on calibration and control of the flexure x-stage; 4 μm tool resolution; 2nd place
  • Tabletop Lathe · Spring 2023: led a team of 6 to build a lathe with <50 μm repeatability on a $200 budget in 3 months

Publications

  • "Elastic Averaging," poster, Annual ASPE Conference
  • "Proposed Design for Electromechanical Telescoping Actuator to Replace Hydraulics in Extreme High Force and Long Stroke Applications," ASME IDETC-2023 Conference (project)
  • Patent pending: "Proposed Design for Electromechanical Telescoping Actuator to Replace Hydraulics in Extreme High Force and Long Stroke Applications," GC Ref. No. MIT-250
  • Acknowledgement in "A comparison of point-tracking algorithms in ultrasound videos from the upper limb," Biomedical Engineering Online
